The clients had lived for some time in Africa and requested a garden which reminded them of their time there. They especially wanted a fire pit so they could sit outside most evenings; lots of colour and space to chill out and entertain; and to grow their own vegetables and herbs. The garden had an existing deck which was adapted to increase the useable space, with a raised bed and built in bench curving around the fire pit. The raised bed contains lots of colourful 'hot' planting including cannas, crocosmias, heleniums, dahlias, red hot pokers and verbena, and there are four raised vegetable beds in the sunniest spot of the garden. There is a wisteria growing over the pergola which provides dappled shade over the table and chairs, and a frame to hang pretty glass lanterns; and a pebble path curves around an evergreen sedum 'lawn'.
