"Wendy's design of fluid curves, and the fabulous vibrant planting, have transformed our dull rectangular garden into a beautiful space that makes me smile every day. It's a joy to look at and a joy to be in"
The brief was to keep as much lawn as possible, but to have much larger planting beds, and to inject lots of colour and different planting for the different seasons. The clients had some wind sculptures which needed siting, and also acted as inspiration for the fluid flowing lines of the garden. The curves will become apparent in spring when a colurful bed of crocuses planted in the lawn emerge, followed by an apricot and orange mid summer bed planted with roses, lilies, crocosmia, echinacea and grasses behind the water feature, and finally the hot late summer and autumnal bed with cannas, dahlias, verbenas, heleniums, rudbeckias, red hot pokers and zebra grasses (as pictured here). The curves of the beds are accentuated with golden bamboo, and tall grasses, which along with the structural seedheads of the perennials will provide winter interest when tinged with frost.
