"I am really thrilled with all you have
done so this is with grateful thanks"
The garden is a long thin plot, and was entirely paved in concrete
slabs, which made the garden look even longer and thinner than it
actually was. The client requested a pretty 'cottagey' garden, with
a separate bed for 'white' plants and plenty of space for entertaining
and sitting. We chose to divide the garden into 'rooms' each with
a separate identity, but keeping a continuity throughout with the
use of the same landscaping materials. The first room is a cottage
style garden with a large cobble circle, big enough for a table and
chairs, and traditional soft cottage garden planting in purples,
yellows, and pinks. The existing brick wall was retained and improved,
and used to break up the garden. A metal rose arch, with climbing
white roses and jasmine was erected an as entrance to the second
room; the 'white garden'. Here there is a gentle water feature on
a gravel circle, calming white flowers and evergreen clipped shrubs
such as box, bay and a white camellia. A circular stone bench on
another cobble circle provides more private seating, and a timber
arch with evergreen honeysuckle and clematis leads to the third room;
a functional space with shed and storage facilities. As the plants
grow the rooms will become more defined, and there will be a real
sense of arrival from one 'room' to another.
