“I bought the house for the garden”

Designed to take focus away from the overpowering plants in the neighbouring property, the design leads the eye softly around the garden with shaped lawns, small trees and a sweeping path making it appear both shorter and wider and creating a reason to go to the end. The trees are strategically placed to both provide privacy and seasonal interest, with species such as Arbutus (Strawberry tree), Amelanchier, Birch, Mimosa, Olive, alongside Camellia and Ceanothus shrubs.
By the house there is a natural stone terrace in four sizes laid in a linear pattern for a contemporary twist, with an enclosed floating bench under a modern pergola with tall bamboo in raised beds to create a cosy enclosed corner.
A sandstone sett path leads to a feature Amelanchier tree and then onto a stepping stone path sweeping through informal lawns to the end of the garden. A laurel hedge helps to foreshorten the garden. The fences are clad with square trellis on both sides for design consistency and to provide a framework for climbing plants.
The garden when fully established will be bursting with bright colours and seasonal interest. The house was bought for the garden and it must be a lovely feature!
