Easy Formality Garden
Kingston upon Thames
Constructed August, planted November 2022 by All Things Green
A garden for a detached Victorian family house which was previously owned by the client’s parents who now live in an annexe to the right with a small raised deck outside their doors. The brief was to move the emphasis of the garden away from the right to the left and use the underused lawn area. There is a lovely Japanese Acer tree in the middle of the garden the idea was to use this and other planting to divide the garden and create zones for different uses such as dining, and lounging. We used a traditional clay pavers on edge to create two distinct spaces in the garden using different patterns to break up the hard landscaping.
The paths around the garden are set in running course with lush planting to enclose and soften the spaces with a large round corten steel water table and a concealed spot for relaxing on sunloungers. To the back is larger sociable space for dining set in herringbone brick with abundant textured planting to enhance the space and overhead lighting for evening use. There is a beech hedge to two boundaries to create a textured shaggy backdrop with autumnal shades, yew domes and balls, pittosporum and hebe domes and plenty of soft grasses, ferns and lime green, purple and white flowers.
